Still Waters Farm

JR Holland was born to ride.  His father (known as Doc Holland) was more than a talented veterinarian, he was also a gifted horseman.  JR was on horses before he could crawl.  JR was never given formal riding lessons.  Instead his father put him on horses that taught him more than any instructor could.

When JR was 8 years old he started calf roping and healing under Rich Bradshaws tutelage.  When JR was 10 years old his father found him an unbroke 2 year old colt.  JR’s mom named the colt from South Dakota “Flint”.  Flint and JR learned from each other and made each other better.  The pair were High School Rodeo State Champions in calf roping.  Under JR’s guidance Flint was the Top 10 calf horse in the nation for 7 years in the AJQHA.

Over the years Flint was so well known at the rodeos that everyone started calling him “Mr. Big”.  Mr. Big could head, heal, and calf rope which is extremely rare.  They roped together for 20 years.

JR was just a teenager when he started breaking horses.  At Still Waters JR breaks and trains horses as well as “fixing” problem horses.  JR also gives roping lessons.  But, of all the things he does at Still Waters, he is most proud of his meticulous lawn mowing skills.
