I was talking to a grandma at the barn (Still Waters Farm of course) the other day. She mentioned that she would love to take horse back riding lessons so she could ride with her granddaughter. I told her she should talk to Kathy (the owner) and get started. I told her I’m also a grandma and I take riding lessons with my granddaughter a few times a week. I have been riding since about 8th grade and my granddaughter was sitting on horses since she was a baby and started official lessons when she was 5. The grandma was surprised, she thought it was just for the kids or if you owned your own horse.
So, in case you are wondering. Still Waters Farm has horse back riding lessons for all ages and all experience levels. You can ride one of our wonderful lesson horses (I ride Brutus usually), ride your own horse that you board there (my granddaughter has a horse named Stella), or some folks even trailer their horse in for lessons. Beginners start with a shorter lesson (15-30 minutes) and they are led around until they are comfortable and strong enough to ride on their own. Full group lessons are an hour and currently cost $40. Private lessons can be arranged but group lessons are preferred.
There is a nice variety of horses and ponies that are used in the lessons. Based on your size and experience level Kathy picks the right horse to get you started. As you advance in your riding you switch around to other horses to broaden your experience.
We also have riding lessons in all kinds of weather. In the summer we generally ride outside in the outdoor arena. In the winter or stormy weather we ride in the indoor arena. Both are very spacious. The indoor has a nice viewing room where you can watch the lessons. See our About Us section and look at pictures under Our Facility (it rotates thru a bunch of views of the property).
